Investigation Brings a Major Turn
The investigation into the murder of Nagarjuna Public School principal K. Rupa Reddy has taken an unexpected turn, with police identifying three former and current students as accused in the case.
Rupa Reddy was found brutally murdered at her residence in JB Colony, at the Kondamallepalli mandal centre of Nalgonda district, on August 11. Police are now examining whether the killing was connected to the theft of around Rs. 4 lakh from her house or whether another motive was behind the crime.
The investigation has also revealed that a Class 10 student is among those suspected in the case, adding a significant new dimension to the murder probe.
Body Found With Stab Injuries
Rupa Reddy's body was discovered inside her house with stab wounds to the chest. Investigators initially faced difficulties in finding substantial physical evidence at the scene.
Police suspected that the people responsible for the killing had worn gloves during the crime. This, investigators believe, may have limited the amount of evidence left behind at the house and made it more difficult to establish the identity of the perpetrators.
The initial assessment based on CCTV footage was that the suspects could be between 20 and 25 years old. However, subsequent investigation led police to focus their attention on students associated with two gangs in the Kondamallepalli mandal.
Three Special Teams Formed
Following the directions of the District Superintendent of Police, three special police teams were constituted to investigate the murder. The teams were led by DSP Srinivasa Rao.
Investigators questioned a wide range of people as they worked to reconstruct the events surrounding Rupa Reddy's death. School staff, family members and residents of the colony were among those questioned, along with many others connected to the case.
Police are understood to have gathered important evidence after questioning around 80 people.
CCTV footage from the area was also examined in detail. The Special Investigation Unit joined the probe and intensified efforts to identify those responsible for the murder.
Students Come Under Suspicion
As the investigation progressed, police reportedly began focusing on students connected with two groups in Kondamallepalli mandal.
The suspects identified by investigators include both former and current students. The reported involvement of a Class 10 student has emerged as one of the most striking developments in the case.
The investigation is continuing to establish the precise role of each of the three suspects and determine what led to the killing.
Was Rs. 4 Lakh the Motive?
One of the central questions before investigators is whether money was the reason for the murder.
Police suspect that approximately Rs. 4 lakh was stolen from Rupa Reddy's house after she was killed. This has led investigators to examine the possibility that the crime was committed for financial gain.
At the same time, police have not ruled out the possibility of another motive. The investigation is therefore focused not only on identifying those responsible but also on determining why the principal was targeted.
Whether the suspected theft was the motive for the killing, or whether the money was taken after the murder for another reason, remains under investigation.
Three Suspects Taken Into Custody
Police reportedly took three suspects into custody at Ibrahimpatnam on Tuesday as part of the investigation.
The suspects are said to include a student currently studying in Class 10, along with former and current students identified during the probe.
However, investigators have not yet released the complete details of the case. Police indicated that the full circumstances surrounding the murder were expected to be disclosed by Wednesday evening.
The case, which initially appeared difficult to crack because of the limited evidence recovered from the crime scene, has therefore entered a crucial stage. Investigators are now working to establish the sequence of events, the involvement of the three suspects and the motive behind Rupa Reddy's killing.
As police continue examining the evidence gathered from CCTV footage and questioning, the circumstances surrounding the principal's murder are expected to become clearer.
