A profound cloud of grief has settled over the revered pilgrimage site of Srisailam following the tragic discovery of five family members dead inside a local accommodation facility. The deceased, comprising three women and two men, hailed from Teacher's Colony in Bathalapalli, located within the Dharmavaram constituency of Sri Sathya Sai district.
Preliminary investigations by the authorities suggest that acute financial troubles likely prompted the family to take their own lives. The horrific scene came to light after room attendants grew suspicious due to a persistent foul odor emerging from the locked premises, prompting them to alert the local police immediately.
A Devotional Journey Ends in Darkness
According to officials, the family arrived in the holy town of Srisailam aboard an auto-rickshaw on August 20. Upon their arrival, they visited the famous Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple to offer prayers. Following their pilgrimage, they checked into a room at the local Vaddera Satram to rest.
However, after checking in, the family was not seen outside for three consecutive days. The prolonged silence inside the locked room raised serious concerns among the lodge operators. When repeated attempts to contact the occupants failed and an overpowering stench began emanated from the room, the management contacted the police for assistance.
Police Probe and Scene Discovery
Responding to the call, a police team led by Atmakur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramanji Nayak promptly arrived at the Vaddera Satram. Officers breached the locked door of the room, uncovering the devastating scene within.
Inside, authorities discovered the bodies of all five individuals. Two male members of the family were found hanging from a ceiling fan in the main hall area, while the three women were found deceased inside the adjoining bathroom.
Law enforcement officials subsequently identified the deceased as Sudhakar, Adilakshmi, Sridevi, Malleshwari, and Manikanta. Preliminary evidence gathered from the site points strongly toward a coordinated suicide driven by mounting financial burdens. The bodies were secured by police personnel for post-mortem examinations as part of the formal investigation procedure.

Andhra Pradesh Health Minister and Dharmavaram MLA Satya Kumar Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the loss of a family from his constituency as incredibly heartbreaking.
In a statement released on social media, Minister Satya Kumar Yadav conveyed his heartfelt condolences and deep sympathy to the surviving relatives of the family, offering prayers for strength to endure the immense grief.
