13 Students Fall Ill at Maddur Girls’ School
Thirteen students of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Maddur mandal headquarters of Siddipet district fell ill on Sunday night following a suspected food-poisoning incident at the residential girls’ school.
The incident was reported at a time when the institution houses a large number of students. Around 250 girls are studying at the school, with classes ranging from Class 6 through the Intermediate level.
The students who became unwell were taken to the Cheriyal government hospital after school staff responded to their complaints. Doctors at the hospital were providing treatment to the affected students.
Students Develop Symptoms at Night
According to the details available from the school, meals were served to the students throughout Sunday according to the prescribed menu.
Chapatis and potato curry were served for breakfast in the morning. The lunch menu consisted of bagara rice and chicken, while rice and potato curry were served in the evening.
Later at night, some of the students reportedly began experiencing health problems. They complained of dizziness, vomiting and stomach pain, prompting school staff to arrange immediate medical assistance.
Thirteen students were subsequently transported by ambulance to the government hospital in Cheriyal. The students were receiving medical care there, according to the information available following the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the students’ illness were being examined after the food-poisoning incident was reported at the school.
Officials Visit Hospital and School
The incident also drew the attention of local officials. Cheriyal Circle Inspector Ramesh and Maddur Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) Ramamohan visited the affected students and enquired about their condition.
Later in the night, CI Ramesh visited the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya itself. During the visit, he sought details about the incident and made enquiries regarding what had happened at the school.
The visits came as the affected students remained under medical care at the Cheriyal government hospital.
With the school accommodating about 250 students from Class 6 to Intermediate, the incident prompted immediate attention from officials following reports that 13 students had fallen ill.
MLA Seeks Immediate Action
Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy also responded after learning about the incident.
The MLA spoke over the phone with the district Collector and other officials and urged them to ensure that the affected students received better medical treatment.
Rajeshwar Reddy expressed anger over the incident and questioned how the lives of students could be put at risk. He also called for immediate action against those found responsible for the incident.
His intervention added to the official response as the affected students continued to receive treatment.
Investigation and Treatment Remain the Immediate Focus
The immediate response following the incident centred on taking the affected students to hospital and ensuring they received medical attention. School staff arranged an ambulance to shift all 13 students to the Cheriyal government hospital after they developed symptoms during the night.
Officials subsequently visited both the students and the school to gather information about the incident. CI Ramesh conducted an on-site enquiry at the KGBV, while MPDO Ramamohan also visited the students.
The incident occurred at a residential educational institution serving girls from Class 6 through Intermediate, where approximately 250 students are enrolled.
As treatment continued at the Cheriyal government hospital, the response from officials focused on the condition of the affected students and on seeking details about the circumstances that led to their illness.
Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, meanwhile, asked authorities to provide the students with better medical care and demanded immediate action against those responsible.
The incident has brought attention to the food served at the Maddur KGBV and the need for authorities to establish the circumstances behind the students’ sudden illness.
