Disaster Averted on the Coastal Highway

A major traffic accident unfolded on Thursday morning near the Visakhapatnam Zoo Park when a police escort vehicle lost control, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision that left approximately ten constables injured. The incident occurred during early morning transit as thirty personnel were being transported to relieve an assignment party stationed at the Gudilova Vignan Vihar School.

The commotion drew immediate attention from commuters and bystanders, who quickly joined forces with responding officers to initiate emergency rescue operations.

How the Collision Occurred

According to preliminary accounts, the police escort bus was navigating the thoroughfare adjacent to the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park when an oncoming passenger car swerved unexpectedly. Attempting to avert a direct impact with the car, the bus driver swerved sharply, causing the heavy vehicle to lose stability.

The vehicle struck the central road divider at high speed before jumping the barrier into oncoming traffic lanes. It then collided head-on with a commercial lorry traveling in the opposite direction from Madhurawada toward the heart of Visakhapatnam city. The force of the impact severely crushed the front cabin of the escort vehicle, trapping officers inside moment before local citizens rushed to assist.

Emergency Response and Hospitalization

Nearby residents and fellow police officers moved rapidly to pull the injured personnel from the wreckage. Ambulances were dispatched immediately to transport the victims to a nearby private medical facility for urgent emergency treatment.

Medical staff reported that five constables sustained severe traumatic injuries requiring intensive medical intervention, while five others suffered minor lacerations and contusions. Healthcare providers confirmed that despite the gravity of the crash and extensive vehicle damage, all officers are currently stable and expected to survive, offering immense relief to their families and colleagues.

State Officials Order Top-Tier Medical Care

The accident prompted immediate concern from state leadership. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha addressed the situation shortly after news of the crash surfaced. She placed a direct phone call to the Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police to assess the physical condition of the officers and evaluate the ongoing medical response.

During the briefing, Minister Anitha directed senior police administration and medical experts to ensure that the injured personnel receive high-quality medical treatment without delay. She urged high-ranking officials to continuously track the progress of each officer’s recovery and expressed her sincere wishes for their swift and complete health restoration.

Ongoing Investigation

Local police authorities have registered an official case regarding the collision and launched a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to the crash. Forensic teams and traffic personnel have inspected the crash site to determine exact speeds, road conditions, and vehicle movements prior to impact. Further details regarding driver statements and vehicular maintenance checks will be released as the official inquiry continues.
