High tension gripped the Nampally locality of Hyderabad after members of the Telangana Youth Congress staged a surprise demonstration outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state headquarters. The flash protest was organized to voice strong indignation over alleged police violence targeted at students across the country and to highlight growing frustrations regarding national examination management.
Demonstrators gathered in large numbers, swarming the approaches to the state office. Carrying black flags and raising loud slogans critical of the central administration, the activists quickly escalated their action by burning an effigy of central leaders. Jaiswal questioned the legitimacy of using coercive force against individuals who are exercising their fundamental rights to protest. In a series of grave allegations, she claimed that security personnel had gone so far as to deploy pellet guns and AK-47 rifles against student demonstrators in recent enforcement actions. Citing these actions and taking moral responsibility for the safety of students nationwide, Jaiswal demanded the immediate resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
