Police Detain Personal Driver in High-Profile Extortion Case

Law enforcement officials have taken into custody the personal driver of Sumanth, the former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, in connection with an escalating criminal investigation. The driver, who was employed directly under Sumanth, was taken into police custody on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the driver was apprehended in the vicinity of Sumanth’s residence in Tellapur. However, police authorities have not yet officially confirmed the precise location where the custody took place. The arrest represents a significant step forward in a probe involving multiple named individuals and serious criminal allegations.

Severe Allegations of Assault and Financial Extortion

The legal proceedings stem from a formal complaint lodged by Gongidi Harikrishna, a businessman residing in Boduppal. According to the complaint, Harikrishna was targeted in a violent attack involving iron rods and wooden sticks. The victim alleged that the perpetrators severely assaulted him, resulting in a fracture to his left arm along with multiple other bodily injuries.

In addition to the physical assault, Harikrishna stated in his complaint that the attackers issued explicit threats against his life while demanding an extortion payment of Rs 10 crore. The severity of the allegations prompted immediate police action across municipal boundaries.

Jurisdictional Transfer and Named Accused

Following the initial complaint, a Zero FIR was originally registered at the Medipally Police Station, located within the Medchal-Malkajgiri police commissionerate. Due to jurisdictional considerations and the nature of the allegations, the case was subsequently transferred to the Jubilee Hills Police Station for a comprehensive investigation.

Police records show that the primary case names several individuals alongside the former OSD Sumanth. The co-accused listed in the police filings include Ramu, Prashanth, Arun Kumar Reddy, Karthik, and Mahender Reddy. Investigators are continuing to look into the roles played by each named individual as well as auxiliary associates connected to the incident. Further proceedings and official statements from the Jubilee Hills police are expected as the interrogation of the detained driver continues.
