Rishika Singh Reacts to Toxic Trailer
Yash’s upcoming Kannada film Toxic has faced controversy since its announcement, and the release of its trailer has now prompted a strong reaction from Rishika Singh. The actress criticised the trailer’s portrayal of women, particularly its romantic and intimate scenes, and questioned why Yash chose to be part of a project featuring such content.
In a video shared online, Rishika said she had expected Yash to demonstrate greater respect towards women. She specifically referred to his position as a husband and father while addressing the actor over the scenes featured in the trailer.
Rishika also issued a direct warning, saying that audiences would not accept content that she believed disrespected women. She stated that people would “make you vacate Karnataka” if women were not treated with respect.
She concluded her video with the statement, “I am toxic.”
‘I Want Kannada Cinema to Grow’
Rishika later elaborated on her criticism in an Instagram post. While expressing support for the growth of Kannada cinema and its efforts to reach audiences beyond India, she said she was unhappy with how women had been presented in the Toxic trailer.
“I want Kannada cinema to grow and reach an international audience. I am happy that a big film like Toxic is being made in Kannada and that a Bollywood actress is also part of it,” she said.
However, she went on to question whether the female characters had been presented in a way that she considered positive or complimentary.
“But I did not like the way women have been portrayed in the trailer. There are five female actors in the film. Has even one of them been shown beautifully or in a complimentary manner?” Rishika said.
Her comments specifically raised questions about Kiara Advani’s presence in the film and the way her character was presented in the trailer.
“Why was Kiara Advani brought from Bollywood to be portrayed in such a manner?” she asked.
Rishika concluded her Instagram statement by repeating her warning about the treatment of women in the film.
“If women are not respected, we will make you vacate Karnataka. I am Toxic,” she said.
Criticism Focused on Intimate Scenes
Rishika’s response was primarily directed at the intimate and romantic elements shown in the Toxic trailer. Her comments centred on what she viewed as the film’s treatment of its female characters rather than on the broader decision to make the film.
Toxic has attracted considerable attention because of its cast, with Yash leading the project alongside several prominent actresses. The film features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi in key roles, adding to the anticipation surrounding the Kannada production.
Rishika acknowledged that she was pleased to see a major film being made in Kannada and that a Bollywood actress had joined the project. Her criticism, however, focused on the presentation of the women in the trailer.
Kiara Advani on Her Role
Kiara Advani has previously discussed her decision to take on a role in Toxic and explained what attracted her to the character.
In an interview with Femina, the actress said the opportunity to portray a character with such a broad emotional range was a major reason she wanted to be part of the film.
“I think it's the first time for me I mean, it's very rare for a single character to be able to portray a range of emotions, from powerful to vulnerability to deranged to manic, and there's madness,” Kiara said.
She also described the character as having several contrasting qualities, including sensitivity and detachment.
“At the same time, there's this sensitivity and this detachment. There were so many layers and shades to Nadia that I think that's what completely drew me to this character and I said, 'Wow, I've never had to portray so many emotions.' I mean, it was a range of complex emotions in one character and I think any actor would kill for that.”
Kiara’s comments indicate that the complexity of Nadia was an important factor in her decision to join the film. She highlighted the opportunity to explore multiple and contrasting emotions through a single character.
Toxic Brings Together a Prominent Cast
