Tensions Rise Over Unannounced Municipal Action

A peaceful public protest in Kodad, Suryapet district, descended into chaos after a Circle Inspector (CI) resorted to aggressive physical force against citizens demonstrating against municipal authorities. The confrontation erupted on the main thoroughfare of Kodad town following the overnight removal of local business structures in Ward 32. According to affected shopkeepers, municipal staff executed the demolition without serving prior legal notice or providing justification, alleging the action was carried out under the direct influence of leaders from the ruling political party.

The sudden destruction of these establishments left small-business owners without a livelihood, prompting them to assemble on the main road to voice their grievances publicly. Protesters blocked traffic to draw attention to what they termed an arbitrary and politically motivated attack on their livelihoods. Among more than 200 operational shops in the vicinity, municipal workers targeted and dismantled a specific setup. Local sources state that the action was taken in retaliation after the shop owner published a post on social media platforms criticizing local political figures or municipal management.

Police Forcefully Suppress Roadside Demonstration

As the affected individuals and community members gathered to stage a sit-in demonstration, law enforcement officers led by the local Circle Inspector arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd. Rather than initiating dialogue or managing the crowd through standard protocols, the officer launched a aggressive physical crackdown on the peaceful assembly. Videos captured at the location show the inspector grabbing a male demonstrator by his collar, physically assaulting him, and forcefully dragging him along the asphalt road.

When female family members and onlookers attempted to step in to protect the man, the officer pushed them aside, causing widespread distress among the crowd. The situation escalated further as the inspector, along with accompanying personnel, seized the protester by his hands and feet, carried him across the roadway, and forced him into the trunk of a private vehicle before transporting him to the police station.

Community Outrage and Calls for Accountability

The extreme measures taken by the Circle Inspector have drawn sharp criticism from local residents, human rights advocates, and community leaders. Protesters expressed anger over the dual grievances of losing their commercial property without notice and enduring unprovoked police brutality. Witnesses reported that the aggressive reaction by law enforcement was entirely disproportionate, given that the demonstration was non-violent prior to the police intervention.

The victim was taken into custody following the incident, alongside the formal registration of a police case connected to his social media activity. Local business owners are demanding an immediate investigation into both the unsanctioned demolitions by municipal officials and the violent conduct of the Circle Inspector, calling for strict disciplinary action and compensation for damaged property.
