A 35-year-old nurse was brutally murdered in her off-site staff rest quarters in Tukku Guda near Hyderabad, prompting the arrest of a local mechanic.
Tragic Discovery at Off-Site Hospital Quarters
A 35-year-old nurse employed at Prime Care Hospital in Tukku Guda, located within the Pahadishareef police station limits near Hyderabad, was found dead in her staff rest room under horrific circumstances.
The incident unfolded after the victim finished her shift on Friday night and retired to her accommodation located a short distance from the main hospital facility. The room was shared with another nurse who was on duty at the time, leaving the victim alone.
On Saturday, a fellow nurse named Sarika arrived at the premises and knocked on the door. Receiving no response, she immediately alerted the hospital management, who subsequently contacted law enforcement.
Pahadishareef police officers entered the locked room through an unsecured window, discovering the victim deceased with visible injuries to her face and legs.
Suspect Apprehended by Local Police
Initially registered as a suspicious death, the police investigation quickly zeroed in on 35-year-old Sainah Ullah, a native of Bihar who worked as an auto mechanic in a shop situated directly in front of the staff accommodation.
Investigating officers arrested Sainah Ullah on Sunday following critical leads established during the preliminary inquiry.
According to police sources, the suspect noticed that the nurse was alone in the room on Friday night. Capitalizing on the lack of security measures on the building's exterior, he entered the room through a window that lacked protective metal grilles and was fitted only with sliding aluminum frames.
When the victim realized an intruder had entered and attempted to raise an alarm, the suspect overpowered and strangled her to death.
Suspicions of Post-Mortem Assault
Police officials revealed that preliminary findings suggest the suspect may have subjected the victim to sexual assault following the murder. Investigators noted disturbing parallels to the August 2024 case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where a postgraduate medical student was assaulted and killed in a resting area by an intruder named Sanjay Roy.
A senior police official confirmed that while strong suspicions exist regarding post-mortem assault, conclusive evidence will depend on the final post-mortem report. The victim's body was transferred to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad for a comprehensive forensic examination.
Concerns Over Inadequate Facility Security
The horrific crime has brought severe criticism upon the management of Prime Care Hospital regarding safety standards for female staff members.
The rest quarters provided for the nursing staff are located behind a row of commercial mechanic sheds along the main highway. Relatives of the victim pointed out that the premises lacked basic security infrastructure, such as window grilles, perimeter fencing, or adequate security personnel.
"The window had only simple sliding aluminum panels without iron grilles," a relative stated, noting that the absence of physical barriers enabled the intruder to enter effortlessly after the victim forgot to latch the window from the inside.
A Life Cut Short by Violence
The deceased hailed from a financially constrained family in the Mulakalapalli mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district. She completed her secondary education at the Tribal Gurukul School in Ankampalem and pursued higher secondary studies at the Bhadrachalam Gurukul College before coming to Hyderabad to undergo professional nursing training.
Having joined Prime Care Hospital in January of this year, she sought to support her family following her father's death due to illness a few years ago. Her mother works as a daily wage laborer to sustain the household, while her brother, who married two months ago, also works as a manual laborer in their native village.
The tragic news of her death has sent shockwaves through her home village, where her final rites are scheduled to take place on Monday.
Family Demands Maximum Punishment
Outside the mortuary at Osmania Hospital, emotional scenes unfolded as the victim's mother and relatives gathered to claim the body.
"She couldn't even come home for the Rakhi festival because she couldn't get leave from work," her grieving mother shared through tears, demanding the death penalty for the perpetrator.
Political figures also visited the site to express solidarity with the family. Andela Sriramulu Yadav, the BJP in-charge for the Maheshwaram constituency, joined the family members in a protest outside Osmania Hospital, calling for immediate and strict action against the accused. Police investigations into the case remain ongoing.
