Student protest brings college to a standstill

A government junior college for girls in Devarakonda, Nalgonda district, witnessed a tense situation after students raised allegations of inappropriate behaviour and harassment against a Telugu lecturer.

The lecturer, identified as Bhaskar, has been accused of behaving improperly toward female students and allegedly troubling them for some time. The allegations triggered strong resentment among the students and their parents, who objected to conduct they said was unbecoming of a teacher.

The issue escalated when the students, reportedly unable to tolerate the alleged behaviour any longer, gathered outside the college gates and launched a protest. They demanded immediate and strict action against the lecturer, raising slogans against what they described as irresponsible conduct.

The demonstration drew the attention of local student organisations. Leaders representing various student groups arrived at the college and extended their support to the protesting students.

As the protest intensified, tension spread across the college premises. The demonstration also briefly disrupted movement in the area surrounding the institution.

Lecturer confronted during demonstration

The situation became more heated when Bhaskar arrived at the location while the protest was under way.

Students and student organisation representatives reacted angrily upon seeing him. They confronted the lecturer over the allegations and questioned him about his alleged conduct toward students.

The confrontation reportedly turned physical, with the protesters assaulting Bhaskar at the scene. Those involved in the protest demanded that he be held accountable and insisted that the allegations should not be ignored.

The situation threatened to escalate further, prompting local police to intervene.

Police step in and take control

After receiving information about the confrontation, police officers quickly reached the college and moved to bring the situation under control.

Police personnel intervened between the protesters and the lecturer and took steps to prevent the confrontation from worsening. Bhaskar was escorted away from the scene under police protection.

The intervention helped restore order at the college premises, where tensions had risen sharply during the protest.

The police subsequently addressed the students and assured them that their complaints would be taken seriously. Officials said a complaint would be received from the affected students and that the allegations against the lecturer would be examined through a detailed investigation.

Assurance of action after inquiry

Police assured the protesting students that appropriate legal action would be taken if the allegations were established during the investigation.

They also said steps would be taken to ensure that the safety of the students was not compromised. Following these assurances, the students agreed to withdraw their protest.

The incident has also drawn the attention of education authorities. According to the report, officials from the Education Department have ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter.

The allegations and the subsequent protest have placed the conduct of the lecturer under scrutiny. The police investigation and departmental inquiry are expected to determine the facts surrounding the students’ complaints and establish whether any wrongdoing occurred.

For the students and their parents, the immediate demand has been for action against any conduct found to have violated the standards expected from a teacher. Authorities have assured them that the matter will be examined and that action will follow if the allegations are proved.
