Nalgonda police have cracked the murder of Nagarjuna School Principal Roopa Reddy, revealing that two of her own Class 10 students committed the brutal crime to steal cash from her residence.
A Tragic Discovery in Kondamallepally
In a chilling turn of events that has sent shockwaves across the region, law enforcement authorities in Nalgonda district have solved the tragic murder of Roopa Reddy, the principal of Nagarjuna School in Kondamallepally. Investigators confirmed that the brutal attack was orchestrated and executed by her own students. Addressing the media during a detailed press briefing, Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharath Chandra Pawar outlined the intricate investigation that ultimately led officers to two Class 10 students who harbored a grudge and sought to steal money from her house.
The case came to light after principal Roopa Reddy was found murdered inside her home, sparking widespread concern and anger throughout the local community. Five Special Teams and Massive Surveillance Review
To ensure a thorough investigation, SP Sharath Chandra Pawar constituted five specialized police teams assigned to different aspects of the crime. Officers systematically scanned footage from approximately 70 CCTV cameras installed across the neighborhood and surrounding transit routes. During her last conversation with her maternal aunt, Roopa Reddy was overheard uttering the word "Babu"—a common, affectionate term she frequently used when addressing her school students. Absence Following School Reopening Triggers Suspicion
Following the tragedy, management declared a four-day holiday for Nagarjuna School. Once classes resumed, police closely monitored attendance to check for unusual absences. Investigators identified 13 students who failed to return to school after the reopening. Among these 13 individuals, five were Class 10 students, and their recent activities quickly drew suspicion.
During background checks, police discovered that two of these Class 10 students had recently begun spending unusually large sums of money, indulging in lavish expenditures and extravagant living. Acted on this suspicious behavior, police took the two teenage boys into custody for rigorous questioning.
Bloodstained Banknotes Expose the Perpetrators
Upon searching one of the suspects, officers recovered a substantial sum of cash totaling Rs 1.54 lakh. When questioned about the origin of such a large amount, the student initially claimed that his parents had given him the money. However, vigilant officers noticed suspicious dark stains on the physical currency notes.
The banknotes were immediately dispatched to a forensic laboratory for detailed scientific evaluation. The laboratory analysis confirmed that the bloodstains on the cash matched the blood profile of the deceased principal, Roopa Reddy. This crucial piece of forensic evidence completely unraveled the suspect's alibi and firmly linked the teenagers directly to the crime scene.
Past Grievances and the Path to Crime
Further investigation revealed a history of conflict between the principal and one of the accused. The student, who had previously resided in the school hostel, had developed habits including alcohol consumption and an obsession with expensive motorcycles. Desperate to fund his lifestyle and acquire fast money, the primary suspect traveled to Goa a month prior to the incident. Upon returning, his desire for quick wealth intensified. Knowing that school fee collections were frequently kept at the principal’s house, he carried out a reconnaissance of Roopa Reddy's residence five days before executing the robbery plot.
A Masked Intrusion Ends in Violence
On August 11, after Roopa Reddy returned home from school, the two masked suspects scaled the boundary wall of her property to commit the robbery. However, during the intrusion, the mask slipped off one of the boys, revealing his identity. Recognizing her student, Roopa Reddy confronted him.
Fearing immediate exposure and legal consequences, the pair launched a violent attack, stabbing the principal 27 times with a sharp weapon. As she collapsed, the assailants grabbed her personal mobile phone, the targeted cash, and fled the scene.
