A police sub-inspector stationed at Tolichouki was arrested red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau officials while accepting a ₹10,000 bribe to settle a domestic dispute without filing charges.
Hydrabad Sub-Inspector Arrested in Anti-Corruption Bureau Trap Over ₹10,000 Bribe
In a swift operation targeting public corruption, officers from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a Sub-Inspector of Police red-handed while he was accepting an illegal gratification of ₹10,000. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Tolichouki Police Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves through the local law enforcement community.
The accused officer, identified as R. Pandu Naik, was serving as a Sub-Inspector at the Tolichouki station under the Hyderabad City Police banner. Officers intercepted Naik right as the cash transaction was completed, acting on a meticulous plan formulated after a formal complaint was lodged by a local resident.
Domestic Dispute Leads to Extortion Demand
The events leading to the officer’s arrest began late last month. On August 28, an altercated domestic dispute broke out among family members residing in the Jamalikunta neighborhood of Golconda. Following the clash, one of the involved family members approached the Tolichouki police authorities seeking intervention and lodged an official complaint regarding the matter.
Sub-Inspector Pandu Naik took charge of reviewing the complaint. However, instead of processing the case according to standard legal procedures, the officer allegedly viewed the family dispute as an opportunity for extortion. He approached the complainant with an offer to resolve the issue informally and protect the complainant's family from facing criminal consequences.
Unlawful Demands for Favor
According to officials monitoring the investigation, Sub-Inspector Naik explicitly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from the complainant. In exchange for this sum, the officer promised to reach an amicable resolution regarding the dispute without escalating it further.
Specifically, Naik assured the complainant that he would refrain from registering an official police case against the complainant’s mother. Furthermore, the officer leveraged his authority by promising that he would not seize the mother's passport, a move that would have caused significant legal hassle and restricted her personal travel.
Unwilling to yield to the officer's illegal demands, the complainant decided to seek justice through proper legal channels. Rather than paying the coerced sum quietly, the individual approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and detailed the Sub-Inspector's demands. Upon validating the authenticity of the allegation, the bureau prepared a strategic trap to catch the officer in the act.
Red-Handed Capture by ACB Team
The sting operation culminated on Tuesday evening in the Mehdipatnam area. Under the direct supervision of ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Majeed, a specialized team of investigators laid a trap near the designated meeting location.
As instructed during the undercover operation, the complainant met Sub-Inspector Pandu Naik to hand over the demanded sum of ₹10,000. The moment Naik accepted the bribe money, DSP Majeed and his contingent moved in swiftly, apprehending the officer on the spot before he could disallow or dispose of the cash evidence. Chemical tests and physical evidence recovery confirmed the bribe handover immediately.
Legal Proceedings and Further Investigation
Following the successful trap, the Anti-Corruption Bureau team took Sub-Inspector R. Pandu Naik into custody. Bureau officials seized the marked currency notes used during the operation as primary evidence for the prosecution.
Naik was subsequently processed for judicial remand and is being produced before the designated Special Court for ACB cases in Hyderabad. Bureau officials confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to ascertain if the officer had engaged in similar misconduct in previous cases handled under his jurisdiction.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the strict measures implemented by anti-corruption authorities in Telangana to curb malpractices within government departments and police administration. Officials continue to urge the general public to report any instances of bribery or extortion by public servants directly to the ACB setup.
